Architecture of Norway, Nov. 15
Please join us Tuesday, November 15 for the final event in this year's series of talks co-sponsored by the Steedman Library and the local chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians.
Architect John Guenther will speak on the architecture, old and new, of Norway at 6:30 pm in the Carnegie Room of Central Library.
The Steedman Room will be open for viewing from 6:00 to 6:30.

The Steedman Library is again pleased to be co- hosting this year's series of talks by the St. Louis Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians. The first one will be held on the evening of Tuesday, February 23, at Central Library. The Steedman Room will be open for viewing from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm, followed by the lecture in the Carnegie Room. Jesse Francis and Marie Taylor will be discussing "Propping Up the Past: Restoring Early Midwest Structures".

Curator, St. Louis County Parks & Recreation, has become widely recognized as an authority on pioneer architecture,
particularly timber frame, French vertical log, and American horizontal log
construction. With Jack Luer, he
recently published Vanishing French Heritage: A Complete Study of the Vertical
Log Homes of the Illinois Country. In
2015 he received special awards from the St. Louis County Historic Buildings
Commission and the St. Louis County Council.
Among the buildings to be discussed in this talk are the Pierre Martin
House in Dupo (Prairie du Pont), Illinois; Zumwalt’s Fort in O’Fallon,
Missouri; the two-story log Davis House; and the Brightfield Smokehouse at Faust
Park in Chesterfield. Marie Taylor, Preservation Technician with the National Archives in St.
Louis, has

The SAH lectures resume this month!
We begin the second half of our lecture series, "Architecture Around the World", this month. This series is a partnership between the St. Louis Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians and the Steedman Architectural Library of SLPL. First up will be John Guenther speaking on "The Works of Eero Saarinen", sure to be a popular topic here in St. Louis.
It will be held on Wednesday , September 16th. Starting at 6:00 pm, the Steedman Room will be open for viewing; the talk will be at 6:30. NOTE: Because of our Maurice Sendak exhibit in the Carnegie Room, this talk will be held in the "Training Room", a room that is on the same (second) floor as the Steedman Room.

Steedman Open House and SAH Lecture, 2/19/15
A hardy band of 35 braved the frigid weather and snow-covered sidewalks to see the Steedman Room and hear Justin Scherma. We all hope that the weather is better for the March 19 event!

St. Louis Public Library's Steedman Architectural Library and the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) , St. Louis Chapter, are teaming up to present the 2015 SAH lecture series. Entitled "Architecture Around the World", the series comprises six talks by local architectural experts. They will be held in the Carnegie Room or the "Training Room" of Central Library at 6:30, preceded by an open house in the Steedman Room at 6:00 pm.
February 19: Justin Scherma, visiting professor at the Washington University School of Landscape Architecture, discusses "79 views (of the Gateway Arch)."
March 19: Peter Wollenberg, architectural conservator, discusses "Russia in 1993."
April 16: Paul Hohmann, architect at E + U Architecture and blogger at Vanishing STL, discusses "From Abbeys to Street Art -- Germany and Austria Along the Danube."
